Research & Innovation
In the information age, nothing ever stands still. What has already been achieved is simply the starting point for further developments. The key markets, telecommunications (T), information technology (I), media (M), entertainment (E) and security services (S), are fast becoming integrated. This convergence is giving rise to a new mega-market, the T.I.M.E.S. market. Innovation and speed are critical success factors in the Internet-based economy. In light of this, research and development at T-Systems always focuses on turning visions and innovations into marketable products and services as quickly as possible. Our combination of technology leadership and scientific excellence translates into tangible benefits for your company. We create new solutions for today's marketplaces, as well as developing next-generation models for the telecom, IT and convergence markets of the future. As a full-service provider, T-Systems supports you in all phases of the development and product life cycle.
Best in class: Here's the evidence.
- New data transmission world record:
- Experts from T-Systems and the Heinrich-Hertz Institute have, for the first time ever, succeeded in transmitting data at a rate of 160 Gbit/s (160 billion bits per second) on a single carrier wave in installed standard fiber. That is equivalent to a simultaneous transmission of about 2.5 million ISDN channels. The experiment has shown that existing networks are capable of transferring gigantic volumes of data.
- Leading-edge science network:
- G-Win, created by T-Systems, is the world's most up-to-date communications network for the scientific community. It encompasses 700 lines connecting universities and research institutes, with data transfer rates ranging from 128 Kbps to 2.5 Gbps. G-Win is based on a flexible optical network from Deutsche Telekom, which supports state-of-the-art Wave Division Multiplex (WDM) technology.
- Europe's largest virtual hard drive:
- T-Systems has installed Europe's largest virtual hard drive for Deutsche Telekom AG. "Network Attached Storage" has a capacity of almost 100 terabytes and dispenses with the need for local hard drives at each desktop. Moreover, the data it contains can be accessed worldwide.
- Top German company in the area of data security:
- T-Systems is the first entire company in Germany to be certified to British standard BS7799, which governs best practices in information security. It is currently the only widely recognized code of its kind, and proceedings are underway to adopt it as an international ISO standard.
